I began my working life as as an assistant stage manager at Harrogate Rep at the age of 18 and then spent the next sixteen years as an actress, in theatre and in television both in the UK and Australia.
When my first child was born I gave up the performing and turned to scriptwriting. I have also worked as a script editor, playscout and literary manager of new play competitions.
In the 1990s I co-founded The Children’s Musical Theatre of London, producing devised musicals with young children. I have written the book and lyrics for around fifteen short musicals for children, and one for adults. I have also written lyrics for cabaret.
Rather late in life I studied for a Masters degree in Text and Performance at RADA (the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) and Birkbeck College, part of London University.
I also write books. I have had one novel published, and more recently a novelised non-fiction book based on my family history in Australia called The Worst Country in the World. My novel The Unlikely Adventures of Claudia Faraday was published in October 2015. My writing and self publishing activities are on my site at patsytrench.com.
I have two grownup children and I live in north London and I have a Freedom pass.

‘Thank you for such a wonderful 4 weeks. I feel like we really became a family in the
time we were there together. It was an incredible experience and I hope to be able
to do it again because I know no two experiences will be the same.’
