I began my working life as as an assistant stage manager at Harrogate Rep at the age of 18 and spent the next eighteen odd years as an actress, in theatre and in television here in the UK and Australia.
I gave up the performing when my first child was born and turned to scriptwriting. I have also worked as a script editor, playscout and literary manager of new play competitions.
In the 1990s I co-founded The Children’s Musical Theatre of London, producing devised musicals with young children. I have written the book and lyrics for around fifteen short musicals for children, and one for adults. I’ve also written lyrics for cabaret.
Rather late in life I gained a Masters degree in Text and Performance at RADA (the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) and Birkbeck College, part of London University.
I also write books. I have published three non fiction books about Australia, based on my family history, and four novels set in 1920s and Edwardian England. My writing and publishing activities are on my site at patsytrench.com.
My career as a tour organiser stretches back to the ’90s, as does my teaching work. After all these years on the planet I remain as passionate about theatre, and about London, as I always was. The Covid lockdowns were disastrous for theatre but it survives, as theatre always does.
I have two grownup children and one grandson and I live in north London with no garden but stunning window boxes (though I say it myself).

‘Thank you for such a wonderful 4 weeks. I feel like we really became a family in the
time we were there together. It was an incredible experience and I hope to be able
to do it again because I know no two experiences will be the same.’
