Teaching

I have over 15 years’ experience teaching and lecturing to American students in the UK. Previous courses that I have designed and delivered include Introduction to Live Theatre for American students from SUNY studying here at Kingston University; Live Theatre at Kingston University Summer School, and Is the Theatre Really Dead? at the University of West Australia in Perth, WA.

‘She has a wonderful ability to engage and involve students in learning about theatre. Theatre is obviously a passion which she enjoys sharing with the students, and they respond enthusiastically to her.’

Dr Philip Woods, Academic Advisor at the Study Abroad Office
Kingston University

Courses and lectures

I can lecture or teach a class on British Theatre, British panto and British actors.

I can deliver a course on British Theatre at an introductory or intermediate level.

Courses I have taught have been built around shows we have seen in the West End, National, fringe and Globe theatres. They include workshops, backstage tours, Shakespeare walk in the City and Bankside, and talks with theatre practitioners connected to the productions.

I also like to include some gentle improvisation, to set the mood of the class, break the ice, encourage creativity and throw light on the productions we are focusing on.

The courses can be aimed at theatre students with experience or students with no experience of theatre at all.

‘I thoroughly enjoyed your class, and it quickly became one of my favorite things about this whole trip. Thank you for organizing the shows, meetings, and tours, and for providing a fun and educational theatre experience. I learned a great deal about the many aspects of theatre, and I am very glad I chose this course.’

Kelsey Mankel, summer school student 2014.

‘A theatre lover before I arrived, Patsy’s knowledge and passion for the theatre turned my love into an addiction. I would not have had the same experience in London without her and her fabulous theatre tours. I’d recommend Patsy’s tours to anyone heading to London for any amount of time!’

  1. Patsy’s knowledge and exuberance introduced me to a world I didn’t know existed until visiting London. She arranged theatre tours, backstage workshops, and performances that allowed a breadth and depth of learning, which propelled me forward in my education. I am so thankful for Patsy’s expertise, and anyone who has the pleasure to get to know her is in for a first-class experience!
